The breathing facade tile

cellular is a water-storing facade tile that turns any vertical, urban space into an algae garden. New types of ceramic surfaces provide adaptable habitats for microbes, that will develop colorful, dynamic appearances. The integration of glazes allows the division of a wall into overgrown and blank sections. Microorganisms can now become design elements of urban architecture and additionally contribute to the improvement of local climate: While the constantly evaporating rainwater causes a natural air conditioning, the micro-patina absorbs, decomposes and metabolizes pollutants from the air.
