Muschel- und Austernschalen, die in Fischrestaurants anfallen, werden zu einer Strandliege nach dem Kreislaufprinzip verarbeitet. Diese Sitzgelegenheit soll die Nutzer zum Nachdenken über das Abfallproblem und unsere Konsumgesellschaft anregen. Die SEAt SHELL ist ein ephemeres Design, da die Bank für eine Sommersaison hergestellt wird. Die salzhaltige Luft, Wind und Regen wirken auf das Möbelstück ein. Die Erosion lässt die Bank zu Sand zerfallen. Mit der Zeit hinterlässt die Bank keine Spuren. Die wellenförmigen Formen der Bank fügen sich vollständig in die Umgebung von Strand und Dünen ein. Das Material kommt aus dem Meer und kehrt am Ende ins Meer zurück.

The combination of product-oriented development (product design) and spatial thinking (architecture) forms the basis of this furniture design programme.

Marieke De Backer is a 23-year-old interior architect, graduated from Sint-Lucas in Ghent, Belgium, who decided to continue her studies into the world of furniture design (VOMO) at the Thomas More Hogeschool in Mechelen. A common aspect of the designer’s work is always a careful look at sustainability.
