FLOCK
Felted wool as a poly-quality mono-material
FLOCK uses the diversity of European sheep breeds and their wool, which is not suitable for clothing due to its coarse fibre structure and is therefore thrown away by the ton. Using robotic production, it is mechanically processed into a sustainable 3D felt with deliberately varying degrees of hardness. A felting machine and a three-dimensional felting process were developed for this purpose and transferred into a mono-material upholstered furniture concept by reinterpreting traditional felting techniques. The resulting stool demonstrates the range of properties and is the first of its kind.

Mareens Projekte basieren auf der Untersuchung ökologischer, historischer und sozialer Kräfte, die die materielle Welt formen. Ihr Schwerpunkt liegt in der Erforschung nachhaltiger Materialien und Herstellungsprozesse, um Verhaltensweisen zu hinterfragen, reflektieren und Perspektiven für die Zukunft zu eröffnen. Sie absolvierte das Bachelor-Studium der Innenarchitektur an der Technischen Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe in Detmold. Heute lebt sie in Berlin, wo sie an der Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin den Masterstudiengang Produktdesign absolvierte, und an eigenen Projekten arbeitet.
