Form follows wheel

Upcycled wheel weights from Toyota

The main purpose of a forklift is to lift heavy objects. For the machine to hold and balance these loads effectively, it requires numerous sturdy and heavy parts. One such part, which often goes to waste, is the wheel. When combined with a rubber layer on the outside, these wheels become ideal for repurposing as weight disks. These upcycled wheel weights not only help reduce waste but also offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional weight disks, making workouts accessible for people and sustainable for the planet.

Lund University
At LUSID, we really get the chance to shape ourselves as designers. There's a big emphasis on collaborating professionally, pushing design boundaries, and questioning societal norms to drive meaningful change. Being in Scandinavia with a strong international focus and incredible facilities, we’re given a platform to explore remote areas of design. Whether it’s social activism or experimenting with new materials, the school encourages us to develop our creativity and individuality to make an impact both within and beyond the design world.

Ondrej Ferianec
My name is Ondrej Ferianec, a designer from Slovakia currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Industrial Design at Lund University. Growing up in a family of engineers and doctors, choosing a creative profession was unconventional. Finding my identity as a creative individual interested in sustainability involved overcoming challenges, defying expectations, and seeking acceptance within my surroundings. Despite my disagreement with the strict rational lifestyle, I naturally developed a logical approach and problem-solving skills, which later proved beneficial in my design career.
