Flex foil waste turns new material
Vote now

Flex foil (also called vinyl) is a major source of waste generated by inefficient processing techniques in digital textile printing (80% offcuts). In her bachelor's thesis, the young designer Julia Linnig is taking a decisive action against this waste of material by offering a recycling solution and pointing out the unfortunately still widespread underestimation of the value of plastic. terrazzoflex is an innovative recycling material that is produced without any additives and is characterised by its versatility and appealing aesthetics.

After training as a goldsmith in the bavarian region Allgäu, Julia Linnig began studying object design at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in 2019. Right from the start, her focus was on craft techniques, sustainability and recycling. After initially working with bio-based materials, her passion for plastic recycling was awakened during the 'Waste Materials’ course. She developed the material 'terrazzoflex' and the ‘ONE BAG’ product family as part of her bachelor's project ‘Crafting Waste’.
