MAJA // urban bee-hive Germany

SPECIES-APPROPRIATE BEEKEEPING

Colony collapse disorder is a major threat to species and food diversity as bees are very important pollinators. The MAJA concept supports beekeeping according to nature with the form derived from natural honeycomb construction, breeding nest and winter cluster. The optimum surface area: volume ratio prevents cold bridges/mould.  Bee research from Seeley is based on proportions and only little honey is harvested. MAJA is energy-autonomous with piezoelectricity: energy by sound waves of the wing beats. Maja uses this energy to collect and transmit data on the condition of the nest and the bees to the beekeeping centre.
