One of the most pressing concerns facing the industry today is offshore production employing unethical manufacturing procedures, as well as the sector’s sensitivity to customer demands and the need to quickly come up with sustainable production methods with the emergence of sustainability acts in the EU and the US. The researcher’s background in design, engineering, and marketing inspired to develop a socially-responsible alternative leather. BioPython focuses on reducing water waste, toxic chemical use, advocating for energy-efficient, ethical, and sustainable leather production.

Hyunsoo Alice Kim
Hyunsoo Alice Kim is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher based in New York and Seoul. Hyunsoo holds a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MS in Textile Design from Philadelphia University. She also studied at Parsons School of Design (AAS Fashion Marketing) and Central Saint Martins (MA Textile Futures) in London, UK. She is currently an EdD.CT (Doctor of Education) candidate and adjunct instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University. She was formerly an assistant merchandiser for Prada Korea and Donna Karan Collection, NYC.
