Cómo beber zumo podría limitar la contaminación por plásticos
A Matter of Fruit desarrolla materiales naturales a partir de residuos de prensado de zumos industriales locales (también conocidos como orujo), utilizando principalmente residuos de manzana. Este subproducto del zumo se transforma en películas flexibles que ofrecen una alternativa no tóxica a los materiales sintéticos y a los plásticos basados en combustibles fósiles. El nuevo material es totalmente compostable y reciclable. De este modo, se amplía el ciclo inicial del orujo y permite que la materia siga circulando, sustituyendo los sistemas lineales nocivos. El material puede utilizarse como alternativa al PVC/PP/PU en espacios interiores, por ejemplo, como persianas, pantallas de lámparas/ventanas o separadores.

Verena Brom
Verena studied Textile and Surface Design (M.A.) at the Weißensee school of art and design. She has a background in Garment Technology and Product Development and worked for companies based in London and Berlin. Her vocational experiences inspired her to develop new material systems targeting various industries to improve the [re]usage of our resources. As an advocate of a circular economy, she works on alternative material solutions with the aim of designing out waste. Her mission is to make use of renewable resources using design as a tool for optimising material cycles.
